My mother had Alzheimer's disease and I watched her decline in front of my eyes. I was frightened when I started to have memory lapses, just like my mom had in her initial stages of Alzheimer's. At age 60, I did not want to become demented. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Fotuhi. He calmly explained that my memory lapses were not as serious as I thought. More importantly, he arranged for me to have a set of tests which showed that the memory parts of my brain were healthy and strong. I found out I had sleep apnea, which explained why I had memory lapses in the first place. I worked with his brain coach and she taught me some simple tricks; I now can memorize a list of 30 items easily. I am astonished at how my memory has improved. I feel great and can't thank Dr. Fotuhi enough for changing my life.
I always had a terrible memory for names but I heard that the "Brain Fitness Program" at the Neurology Institute and decided to give it a try. Dr. Fotuhi discovered that I had a very low B12 level. All my other tests, including his complete 3-hour neurocognitive evaluation, were within normal levels for my age. Within three months, I had a marvelous memory for names and now keep impressing my friends by memorizing all the names in our parties.
My primary doctor has tried to convince me to exercise for years. I always meant to, but I never seemed to find the time. Dr. Fotuhi tested my fitness and found I was only performing at 54% compared to others my age! He sat down with me and told me that my memory lapses were due to my low activity level. Together, Dr. Fotuhi and I decided I would walk 2-3 miles a day, 5 times a week. Since starting this exerecise regimen I have surprised my friends and family with the improvements in not only my memory, but my life overall. I cannot thank Dr. Fotuhi enough!
I watched my brother-in-law decline from Alzheimer's disease to a point where he was no longer able to take care of himself. Although I did not believe I had any memory problems, I wanted to take all of the preventive measures. Dr. Fotuhi put me through his program, and I met with his neuropsychologist, Dr. Newman. Dr. Newman reviewed my neurocognitive testing with me and he discovered that I had difficulty with concentration, which can cause difficulty with memory. I was a good student in school, but always had difficulty finishing assignments. Working with both Dr. Newman and Dr. Fotuhi, I was able to develop a treatment program that catered to my needs and now I feel like I'm functioning at 110%!
