Memory

Forgetting names of old colleagues and friends is a major complaint among middle-aged baby boomers and their parents around the globe. Between the ages of 70-79, 65% of individuals will complain about some memory loss. However, up to 50% of Americans older than 80 will have significant memory loss or dementia. Given that the elderly represent the fastest growing portion of the population, cognitive decline associated with aging has become a major health concern.

Migraine

Nearly everyone knows someone who is affected by migraines or suffers from migraines themselves. The symptoms that characterize a migraine may include:

  • Pain of the head or neck
  • Sensitivity to light, sound, and other stimuli
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Visual phenomena, such as seeing bright spots or flashes of light, known as an aura
  • Neck stiffness

How we can help:

At the Neurology Institute, we can develop a plan to treat your migraines by examining your diet, your cardiovascular health, and medication list to determine the best plan for you. Together, we'll identify whether you have any triggers, including food, changes in the weather, and more.

General Neurological Exam

Our neurologist, Dr. Fotuhi, can perform general neurological examinations as well. We can provide treatment for neurological conditions including, but not limited to, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Scelerosis, and stroke.

Traumatic Brain Injury

A traumatic brain injury (TBI) occurs when sudden trauma causes damage to the brain. Depending on the severity of the trauma, symptoms may vary. Symptoms may include, headache, confusion, fatigue, a change in sleep patterns or behavior, and trouble with memory, attention or concentration.

At the Neurology Institute, we have developed a Cognitive Skills Training program that is personalized for each individual. Individuals who have suffered a TBI, show dramatic improvements in their memory and concentrations after taking part in the program. Brain mapping allows us to distinguish the areas each person needs to imrpove and from there we generate a personalized treament plan.

Diet Consultation

In the United States the prevalence of obesity is more than 30% for both sexes and in most age groups. The number of obese adults is expected to nearly double by 2015. These findings are disturbing in that they indicate the rise of an epidemic, in which the population around the globe is becoming obese at an exceedingly rapid rate.

How We Can Help

At the Neurology Institute we aim to aid those who are overweight or obese. By meeting with our Brain Coach, you will learn how to improve your diet and implement an exercise regimen. You'll learn the benefits of eating a Mediterranean style diet and a diet the is rich in DHA, an omega acid that is vital to brain fitness.

Gait Imbalance and Dizziness

Gait imbalance and dizziness plague individuals of all ages.These symptoms are nonspecific and can be caused by a variety of conditions.
